What’s this Class?

This workshop aims to look at the spoken word in improvisation as though it were a written creation, a rich support for thoughts and emotions, as well as poetic expression. In short: to play as if it has been written and care less about what is said than how it is said. We will take inspiration from contemporary theatre authors and amuse ourselves (I hope!) with the manipulation of words, as well as pace and structures of dialogues to create aesthetics of the improvised speech.

Who’s this for?

Improvisers with a couple of years' experience and maybe some interest in scripted theatre. All levels of English speaking is welcome!

About your Teacher

Paul has been improvising for more than 25 years, and teaching for around 15 of those. He mostly teach in French, to teenagers and adults, in Switzerland. He thinks improv is a wonderful tool to create all kind of scenes, from the funniest and silliest to the deepest and most touching scenes, all that from scratch. He always tries to think about the scene from the eyes of an audience member and therefore like to focus not only on the text and interactions, but also the setups, sceneries, positions of actors, use of spaces, etc. All the things we can't really see or hear, but that are actually saying a lot.
